Kozmiuk Wooden Boats of Lakemoor, Illinois has commissioned Van Gorkom Yacht Design LLC to design a 23ft and a 28ft runabout. The 23 footer will be a custom wooden boat designed in the iconic barrel-back style of the 1940s, only with a contemporary twist.
The design retains all the charm and craftsmanship of a bygone day, while incorporating carefully considered upgrades in both aesthetics and performance. This includes a chined hull with 14 degrees of deadrise and a lifting strake for a fast, smooth ride. The contemporaneous reverse bow gives this boat its edge and meld seamlessly into generously flared topsides in the forward sections, which in turn develop into the classic barrel back geometry at the transom.
The spacious cockpit is ergonomically designed for accommodating five adults comfortably, with two rotating pilots’ seats forward and a wrap-around salon lounge seat aft. Behind the cockpit is the engine compartment, housing a powerful 350 HP V8 Mercruiser engine.
