The Caper Skiff power boat has been designed and engineered by VGYD for the Preszler Woodshop LLC of Cutchogue, New York. Trent Preszler is renowned for his fine craftsmanship in building canoes that look like works of art (www.preszlerwoodshop.com).

The Caper Skiff is totally unique in both its form and function. The hull shape is based on a blended philosophy of contemporary and traditional lines – an inverted bow and reverse transom juxtaposed with round sections and tumblehome in the topsides. The fore deck forms a watertight compartment with a stowage hatch on centerline. The open cockpit features a sitting bench, a cooler/bait box, and a bracket for the outboard and bronze stern cleats.

The hull and deck construction of the Caper is strip-planked and fiberglass, similar to that of Trent’s exquisite canoes. Every major element of this boat has been carefully considered in terms of the wood type and grain pattern such as the sheer radius, cooler box, outboard bracket, etc. The hull and deck/cockpit structures are built separately and joined together in a seamless transition making for a strong, lightweight shell.

The Caper will be powered by a 3hp Torqeedo Travel electric outboard motor with foot pedals for hands-free steering. The skiff will also be an efficient rowing boat as it is outfitted with oarlocks and oars, a reversible back and the cooler box that acts as a foot brace.

Construction of the first Caper skiff power boat is presently underway at Trent’s shop. You can follow his progress on Instagram at preszlerwoodshop. Trent hopes to have the prototype ready for viewing by next spring.
